A pair of Rutgers University–Camden business scholars have been recognized with prolific research honors in their fields of expertise.
John Broussard, an associate professor of finance at the Rutgers School of Business–Camden, has been awarded a prestigious Fulbright Award that will allow him to perform research at the Hanken School of Economics in Finland during the fall 2016 semester. He will work closely with Finnish business scholars and graduate students on research that evaluates multiple classes of stock in Europe. The Hanken School of Economics has campuses in Vaasa and Helsinki in Finland.
Broussard is an expert scholar in investments, portfolio management, and risk management, and his research has also delved into corporate finance, international stock markets, high frequency trading, and other financial market matters.
“It is a great personal and professional achievement to be chosen by the Fulbright board,” Broussard says. “My mission and purpose is to add value at the research and teaching levels at Rutgers–Camden. Part of that mission is to extend our international reach. I hope to make research inroads while being part of Fulbright program.”
Broussard says much research has already been done on multiple classes of stock in U.S. markets, but there is still a lot to learn about European stock.
The Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government. It is designed to increase mutual understanding between the United States and other countries. Broussard was selected for the award by the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board, a 12-member board appointed by the President of the United States that is responsible for supervising the Fulbright Program worldwide and approving selection of all Fulbright recipients.
Established in 1946, the Fulbright Program is the most widely recognized and prestigious international exchange program in the world. More than 300,000 students and scholars around the world have participated in the program since its inception.
Sambharya was named among 42 of the most prominent researchers in this field according to a bibliometric study that drew from more than 700 published works in international strategic management from 2000 to 2013.
“It’s good to be on that list,” Sambharya says. “I was a little surprised. This is acknowledgement from my peers that I belong in the upper echelon of researchers. It’s a good feeling and a great honor.”
Management International Review is a double-blind refereed journal that aims at the advancement and dissemination of research in the field of international management. The journal publishes research that builds or extends international management theory so that it can contribute to international management practice.
Sambharya’s research interests include the automobile industry, international business issues and strategy, and management policy. He is the author of numerous articles in publications like the Strategic Management Journal, Management International Review, and the Journal of International Business Studies.
“It’s appealing to me to work at the intersection of two fields and bring the strategy component into international business,” Sambharya says. “They are two separate, but interrelated fields and there is a lot of cross-pollination of knowledge. We live in a global society, so the more we understand how international business works, the better.”
The article that identifies Sambharya and his research peers as the best in the field is titled, “Trends in International Strategic Management Research from 2000 to 2013: Text Mining and Bibliometric Analyses” and was published in November 2015 in the Management International Review. It was written to serve as a resource for future research “by shedding light on how trends in international strategic management research have evolved over time.” The analysis shows a substantial increase in the volume of articles published in the field over the 13-year period. Sambharya was the author of six published articles during that timeframe.
