CAMDEN — It is often said that to truly capture the holiday spirit, it is better to give than to receive. This month, Rutgers–Camden’s own Scarlet Raptors are doing their part to help families throughout Camden experience some holiday magic.
The Camden Angels program at Rutgers–Camden and the Black Law Students Association are collecting and delivering toys for Camden children just in time for the holidays.
The Camden Angels are accepting donations of new and unwrapped toys until Friday, Dec. 16. The toys can be dropped off in the Campus Center at the third-floor reception desk or in room 301 until Dec. 14. From Dec. 15-16, the toys can be dropped off at the Raptor Roost in the Campus Center.
Volunteers are needed to sort and wrap gifts in Raptor Roost on Dec. 15, Dec. 16, and Dec. 19 and can stop in anytime between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.
“Camden Angels allows our students, faculty and staff give back to our host city,” says Allison Wisniewski, associate dean of students at Rutgers–Camden. “The program relieves some of the burden that parents have around the holidays so they are able to experience the joy and happiness with their children.”
The Camden Angels have helped more than 12,000 individuals within the City of Camden and Camden County by supplying clothing, food and toys to the needy since 1999.
The Black Law Students Association is hosting its inaugural Holiday Party for Families of Camden on Tuesday, Dec. 20 from 5-8 p.m. in the Campus Center.
Members of BLSA will provide 10 Camden families with food, fun, and fellowship in the spirit of the holiday season. The party will be a time for families to take part in a celebration of the season and enjoy the company of their loved ones and neighbors in a safe, amiable environment.
BLSA is accepting donations for gifts for the families, like toys and winter clothing, as well as holiday-themed gift wrap, gift boxes, gift bags, ribbon, bows, tape, and nametags. Donations can be made to the donation boxes BLSA has set up on the law bridge. For monetary donations, or for more information, contact Aleksandra Grinshpun at agrinsp@camden.rutgers.edu.
