Rutgers-Camden to Help New Jerseyeans Better Understand Federal Financial Aid Options

CAMDEN – A $7,500 New Jersey College Access Challenge Grant awarded to Rutgers University—Camden and its Hill Family Center for College Access will benefit low-income residents seeking to afford higher education. A series of workshops to be held on the Rutgers–Camden campus will assist high school students in their completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

The workshops, which will explain the financial aid process and help participants complete the 2012-2013 FAFSA, will take place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 10 and Saturday, April 7 on the Rutgers–Camden campus. To register for the workshops, visit cems.rutgers.edu/fafsaworkshop.

Founded in June 2011, the Hill Family Center for College Access at Rutgers–Camden offers college and career guidance to Camden residents and their families with workshops on test preparation, conflict resolution, time management, writing, and organizational skills. Twin brothers, and Rutgers–Camden alumni, Washington and George Hill provided funding for the center at the school they credit for their success.

Today, Washington is a maternal fetal medicine specialist at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, where he previously served as chief of staff and chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.  George is the Levi Watkins Jr. Professor and Associate Dean for Diversity in Medical Education at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.

JarDaine Brown, who graduated from Camden High School, Rutgers University, and Wilmington University, serves as an admissions officer and college access programming coordinator for the Hill Family Center for College Access at Rutgers–Camden.
