WHAT:

   Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, will welcome the entering class on the New Brunswick Campus to the university at the fall 2008 convocation.
     

WHO:

   More than 6,000 first-year and transfer students will hear remarks from Rutgers administrators, faculty and staff. 
     

WHEN:

  

Saturday, Aug. 30. See times below:

  • Preconvocation activities begin at 5 p.m.
  • The formal convocation is from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.
  • Scarlet Carnivale, the postconvocation festival, is from 8:30 to 11 p.m.
     

WHERE:

BACKGROUND:

  

Preconvocation activities include performances by Rutgers Queens Chorale, the Orphan Sporks, Raas and Garba Allstars, and the Rutgers Marching Band.

A laser light show will kickoff the Scarlet Carnivale immediately following the convocation. The festival will feature a disc jockey, Segway races, laser tag, games, an inflatable obstacle course, cooler scooter races, Wii and Rock Band, a music video game, on a 40-foot inflatable screen, giant tricycle races, log rolling and a 27-foot climbing wall.
